Job Summary

  • Provides routine and technical care for in-patient and boarding patients. Normal work shift 1st shift 7:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. 2nd shift 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday thru Saturday. Sunday 1st shift 2nd shift

General Accountabilities

  • Provide care for all hospitalized patients and boarders. Including husbandry, and treatments as required.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of cages, equipment, surgical and storage facilities.
  • Maintains hospital treatment area supplies as well as food prep (being sure to account for them appropriately)
  • Aid team members with treatments, medications, radiology etc.
  • Prepare for boarding patients that will be checking in following day.
  • Distributes food and water; prepares special diet plans. (listed on Electronic Whiteboard-patient orders)
  • Exercises patients as required (listed on Electronic Whiteboard-patient orders)
  • Prepare for boarding patients that will be checking out same day: In the A.M. make sure the patients belongings are gathered together and the cage/kennel is clean and ready to go home.
  • Making sure that all boarders are checked in correctly(all orders are correct as directed by owner and/or doctor)
  • Collects and processes diagnostic samples.
  • Administers drugs and other treatments.
  • Assists Veterinarians and Lead Tech with handling animals during procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness of the treatment area and boarding rooms.
  • Follow the doctors direction with regards to treatments as well as care, make sure to communicate the patients’s status to the care doctor for that day and note the findings. This will be done via the electronic whiteboard, as well as directly with the doctor when available.
  • Setting up rooms for Doctors as needed.
  • Discharging patients as needed.
  • Admitting/discharging boarders and hospitalized patients going home.
  • Capable of being cross trained and follow directions clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledgeable of the correct doses of prescribed medications, reviewing the the chart and checking with the Doctor if concerns arise. (Meloxicam is a ______ and used for _____ given ____ times a day) You do not have to be specific however you are expected to be familiar.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School or equivalent Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Minimum Experience: Completion of training for Assistant.
  • Preferred Experience: 1+ Years
