Job Summary

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates patient care activities in hospital, to maintain standards of patient care, and advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Oversees flow of traffic with regards to appointments, and in house patients. Scheduled shift 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, this position may require additional hours when needed.

General Accountabilities

  • Recommends establishment or revision of policies, procedures, and methods and develops organizational structure and standards of performance.
  • Advises and assists Chief Executive Officer, Hospital Director, and medical staff in planning and developing administrative and operational policies and procedures and strategic planning.
  • Ensures achievement of objectives.
  • Coordinates, integrates, and evaluates functions and activities of nursing program.
  • Analyzes and evaluates overall patient care program.
  • Confers with managers and staff concerning problems of patient care.
  • Evaluates the education and training needs of personnel.
  • Makes periodic rounds of patient care units.
  • Prepares periodic reports concerning patient care service.
  • Oversee and direct the flow of the hospital with regards to the hospitalized patients as well as boarding patients.
  • Direct the flow of appointments being loaded into the rooms as well as the “handing off” of appointments that become hospitalized and stay for treatment.
  • When time Permits: Training the assistant tech any needed skills to advance including: anesthesia, radiology, lab etc.
  • Make doctors aware of any medical needs of the patients and follow through with the treatment ordered.
  • Be aware of all inpatient pets as well as boarders on medications, double checking to make sure that mistakes are not made and doctors” orders are followed.
  • Be available (beyond normal scheduled hours) if needed to make sure the treatment are being handled correctly.
  • Call clients to schedule discharge appointments (per doctors recommendations) and go over all discharge appointments. This can also be done by a capable assistant tech.
  • Must be capable of doing routine radiology and anesthesia without the assistance of the doctor.
  • Making sure medications are made and the daily list are completed based upon priority in a timely manner.
  • Implementing new protocols that will establish a more streamline flow of medical care.
  • Report directly to the Hospital Director when issues arise and verbal/written warning may be needed.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience: 1+ year exotic care experience.
  • Preferred Experience: 2+ years, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
